Fairfield and Willow Pond lie nestled in the last valley east of South Mountain, the northern extension of Virginia's Blue Ridge. Fairfield was occupied by Confederate troops for ten days before, during, after the decisive Civil War battle and was on Robert E. Lee's main route of retreat. This picturesque region is resplendent with thousands of acres of apple and peach blossoms in the spring, and the reds and golds of ripening fruit later in the year.

Willow Pond Farm activities are centered around a magnificent 1760s vintage stone farmhouse thought to have been built by the same mason who constructed the Fairfield Inn. The Willow Pond shop is located in the early nineteenth-century summer kitchen, where visitors can step into the walk-in fireplace and back in history to a time when jams, jellies and applesauce were cooked over an open fire.

If you visit our farm in spring and summer, you'll be able to tour our many demonstration gardens, featuring culinary herbs, edible flowers, antique roses, lavender, mint, scented geraniums, salvias, medicinal herbs, biblical plants, and dye plants. We also have a silver "moon" garden, a sun garden, a shade garden, a butterfly garden, and a 250-foot-long perennial border.
